Homemakers are queuing up to move into Maitland's newest suburb.
Waterford Estate, expected to become Chisholm's first land release, is attracting a high level of attention, with up to 25 people registering their interest in land on a website each week.
The estate is a project of Country Property Group and it will have access from a new signalised intersection on Raymond Terrace Road. Work will in September and be finished in six months, paving the way for the region's biggest display home village and the first stage of new homes.
New Hunter Home Land will showcase 70 home designs when complete.
"Waterford County is the only development (in Chisholm) that has got water and sewer services available," Country Property Group director Christopher Bean said.
"I believe there is a pent-up demand. Our website shows there are 20 to 25 registrations (from people interested in blocks) a week. "I'm not suggesting that will translate into sales, but it's a good indicator."
The new suburb will bring changes to Thornton's road network. The Mercury has reported that four sets of traffic lights would be built to control the increase in traffic. The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has said Raymond Terrace Road would become four lanes in line with the estate development.
"The RTA commented on the road infrastructure upgrades required to the state road network to accommodate the traffic generated from the proposed urban release area," a spokesperson said.
"After reviewing the traffic report, the RTA recommended four intersections with traffic lights be built on Raymond Terrace Road. "The four proposed intersections with traffic lights will involve making Raymond Terrace Road four lanes between Government Road and the proposed intersection opposite Brickworks Road." A start date for the road works and traffic signal installation on Raymond Terrace Road depends on the development of the Thornton North urban release area.
