Two women taken to hospital after five-car pile up

16/05/2008 9:08:00 AM
A five-vehicle pile-up near the Stockland Green Hills Shopping Complex yesterday morning disrupted commuter traffic for about an hour.

Four cars and a truck were involved at the accident at the intersection of Mitchell Drive and the New England Highway about 8am.

The accident closed the right-hand lane to east-bound traffic.

Police, ambulance and fire services attended the scene.

Two women were taken by ambulance to John Hunter Hospital and a man was taken to Maitland Public Hospital.

They were reported to be stable late on Thursday.

"The pile-up was the result of one car running into the rear of another, causing a flow-on effect. It was bumper-to-bumper," an ambulance officer said.

"(The cars) were crumbled and their was significant damage."
