Maitland students flying the flag for the region at the NSW Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) Australian Football Championships have experienced mixed results on day two of the competition.
Six young AFL talents made it into the Hunter public school team: Isaac Heeney (Black Hill PS), Adam Hall (Branxton PS), Toby George (Branxton PS), Joseph Sinclair (Telarah PS), Jayden Park (Tenambit PS) and Brodie Fitzgerald (Ashtonfield PS).
Their team started the day off on a high, after kicking 4.11.35 to beat Barrier 2.4.16.
But the elation was shortlived, with the team’s afternoon clash seeing them go down 2.0.12 to Sydney East’s 4.9.33.
Sydney West’s team also got one over the Polding side, which included St Paul’s Primary School student Connor Jenkins.
Polding is one of two teams representing Catholic Schools across the State at the event.
The news didn’t get any better for the Catholic school kids in their second match, with Barrier exacting revenge for their earlier loss to Hunter by overcoming Polding 4.8.32 to 4.1.25.
The event began in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday, with Polding losing both its matches on the first day while Hunter was unbeaten before its loss yesterday.
The players have one final day to impress State selectors, with the finals series and play-off matches scheduled for today.
