Bolwarra Public School will join the State’s prize athletic breeding grounds at next week’s State titles.
The school had six of its best young athletes selected in the Hunter team to attend the NSW Primary School Sport Association titles at Homebush next Wednesday and Thursday.
Eleven-year-old joint school captain Tom Rinkin will cap off an outstanding year of sport in Sydney next week after qualifying for the high jump and 800m events.
Rinkin has already been to the PSSA State titles this year for rugby union and cricket.
The Bolwarra students qualified at the regional championships at Glendale on August 29, where Rinkin came first in the high jump.
Rinkin’s co-captain Ebony Dart also qualified for Homebush in the 11-years high jump.
The Bolwarra contingent of the Hunter team also includes twins Jack and Tom Newman.
The 10-year-old duo make up half of the schools junior boys relay team. Jack will also represent the Hunter in 10-years 100m, 200m and junior shot put.
Logan Dart, nine and Mitchell Abela, 10, will also attend next week’s championships as the other half of the junior relay team.
The school’s assistant principal Bob Collier said he was delighted his school was able to represent the region.
“I’m sure these guys are going to be great ambassadors for the Hunter,” he said.
“Our relay team deserve special congratulations because they really trained very hard together to get to there.
“It’s quite rare to get two twins in a relay team, but those Newman boys are exceptional athletes.”
