Tamburrini back in the ring for title shot

11/07/2008 8:49:00 AM
One of Maitland youngest boxers will head north this weekend for the chance to win his first title.

Blake Tamburrini, a 13-year-old Ashtonfield boxer, is not old enough to fight in NSW so he been making the long trips to Queensland to compete in the sport he loves.

He’ll compete in the 48kg light flyweight class at the Wide Bay Titles in Bundaberg on Saturday night.

Tamburrini will have the chance to come back with his first title.

The All Saint’s College, St Peter’s Campus, Maitland, student has won six from six of his previous bouts.

His trainer Barry McDonald has high hopes for the young pugilist.

“He’s going really well,” McDonald said.

“He’s focused and he’s sharp – he’s looking good for this one.

“He actually gets a shot at the title and a belt.

“He trains most days and even on the weekends when he’s not the gym he’ll be training at home.

“I’m pretty confident.

“He’s been training exceptionally well and he’ll go very close.

“We’re hoping he’ll be fighting in his own age bracket but it’s depending on who turns up.”
