In reference to your column, What We Say, (Maitland Mercury, July 18, 2008) I agree with what you say about people contacting their councillors about issues that are of concern.
I am a North Ward representative and have been for almost nine years and I can say with all honesty that I have never had the issue of law and order raised with me.
The people of the area know that I am approachable and I help and advise where I can and I refer to others if I am unable to help. In this case I share the concerns of the people and I wish I could do more, but law and order is a state issue and one that council and myself as a representative would like to do more.
I think the meeting that has been convened by Philip Penfold is a good initiative, I only wish I could be there but it has been arranged on a council meeting night and of course I must attend. I have arranged for one of my election team members to be in attendance and they will offer my unavoidable apoligies and take notes for me to assist if possible.
I can only reinterate that I am your current representative and I hope to be after the next election and I am there to help when and where I can.
